Research

Professor Ma's research is centered around the development of secure, intelligent, and transparent computing systems for the upcoming generation, all while maintaining high performance and considering other crucial factors. This research lies at the intersection of security, artificial intelligence, and software system research. Professor Ma's work delves into novel system architectures, such as the integration of machine learning components into conventional software systems. This integration enables intelligent execution and event handling, coupled with program analysis and verification techniques, ensuring both system and algorithm security. The research conducted within Professor Ma's group is characterized by its multidisciplinary nature.

Biography

Shiqing Ma is an Assistant Professor in the Manning College of Information & Computer Sciences (CICS) at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Before that, he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Rutgers University, NJ, from September 2019 to June 2023. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Purdue University in 2019 and B.E. from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) in 2013.

Activities & Awards

Professor Ma's research has garnered numerous accolades, including the prestigious US National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award in 2023. Furthermore, he has been honored with Distinguished Paper Awards at prominent conferences such as the USENIX Security Symposium in 2017 and the Network and Distributed System Security Symposium in 2016. In addition to these notable achievements, Professor Ma has received several other paper awards from various conferences and workshops. Demonstrating his commitment to the academic community, he actively contributes by serving on the technical program committees and editorial boards of renowned conferences and journals in the fields of security and privacy, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and software engineering.
