Job Description:

The College of Information and Computer Sciences (CICS) at the University of Massachusetts is looking for exceptional part-time teachers. We encourage applications from teachers in any area of the computer and information sciences, but we currently have the strongest need for faculty who can teach security, software engineering, theory of computation, and artificial intelligence courses.

Full time teaching faculty typically teach six courses per year and have service obligations. Part-time teaching faculty will be assigned a proportional workload and will teach classes at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Initial appointments will be for at least one year. This is an academic-year appointment with teaching responsibilities for 9 months of the year. Opportunities for teaching additional summer courses may be available for additional compensation. Although not tenure track, it is expected that the person holding this position will remain with the college long term. Teaching Faculty working at least 50% time will be eligible for benefits.

Entry level teaching faculty have the rank of Lecturer, and may be promoted to Senior Lecturer or Senior Lecturer II after sufficient time in service, meritorious performance, and promise of continuing professional development and achievement.  Our programs are growing, so we are currently looking to fill multiple Lecturer or Sr. Lecturer openings. Under exceptional circumstances, highly qualified candidates at other ranks may receive consideration for these openings (ex. Senior Lecturer II).  We are looking for individuals with a long-term commitment to teaching, who are willing to work collaboratively with our other teaching faculty to develop and continuously refine our curricula. There are no required research-related duties, although research activities are favorably regarded.



Applicants must hold a M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field with a Ph.D. strongly preferred. Applicants must also have a strong commitment to and proven track record in teaching undergraduate courses in computer science.
