LGRC A112
Special Event

The Cybersecurity Institute will hold a hackathon in LGRC A112. The event will bring together CICS graduate students, faculty, and cybersecurity industry professionals from Massachusetts-based companies, such as MITRE and Pixel Forensics (including alumni!). This hackathon is specifically designed for graduate students in CICS, and the tasks are slightly more challenging.

The hackathon's primary focus is to make machine learning techniques easily accessible to investigators of crimes against children. Such investigators, whether working at NGOs, industry Trust & Safety teams, or government, could make use of information extraction tools that are applied to images, videos, text, and audio. Most tools are part of expensive software suites. In the hackathon, the goal will be for participants to code well-known models as packaged tools. We have a common codebase for doing this, including a common GUI and backend. Via this approach, we hope to make quick progress that will last beyond the hackathon. Specifically, we'll be adding functionality to our open-source, free tool, RescueBox. More information is here: https://github.com/UMass-Rescue/RescueBox. The hackathon is appropriate for any graduate-level students with programming tasks in ML, systems, databases, GUIs, and project management.
